U.S. ASTRONAUT HALL OF FAME - FACTS AT A GLANCE
- The 37,500 square-foot U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame and U.S.Space Camp¿ Training Center in Titusville is operated jointly bythe Mercury Seven Foundation and the U.S. Space CampFoundation.
- The complex opened in early March 1990.
- The Hall of Fame features personal mementos and equipment donated by the Mercury and Gemini astronauts. The facility showcases each of the seven Mercury astronauts and 13 Gemini astronauts, using videotape of key assignments and flight segments.
- The Hall of Fame features an honor roll of all astronauts who have flown missions and devotes a section to flights that followed the Mercury and Gemini missions. Future space programs are highlighted, such as the space station and possible return trips to the moon and manned voyages to Mars in the 21st century. "Shuttle to Tomorrow," a full-scale space shuttle orbiter featuring a multi-media theater in its cargo bay, was added in 1992.
- The Mercury Seven Foundation was created by the original Mercury astronauts to encourage academic and technological excellence through college scholarships.
- The Hall of Fame is open daily, except Christmas frown 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Admission is charged. Follow Kennedy Space Center signs to Florida 405 and U.S. 1.
