AWARDS BANQUET

On January 23, 1999, the 27th annual Arizona Aviation Awards Banquet was held at the Holiday Inn-Select in downtown Phoenix. I wish to thank the 270 plus people who were in attendance for helping to make it a rousing success! With Preston Westmoreland of KTAR talk radio fame acting as Master of Ceremonies and General John L. Barry, Commander of Luke Air Force Base, as our guest speaker, a good time was had by all! Without the active participation of many individuals from various aviation letter groups and the FAA, it would have been impossible to have such an enjoyable evening, not to mention the excellent Filet Mignon dinner served by the Holiday Inn.

The following people were the recipients of the awards:

Maintenance Technician: Scott Gifford of Nostalgaire in Prescott, AZ.
Avionics Technician: Mark Winter of Cutter Aviation in Phoenix, AZ.
Flight Instructor: Belinda Ann Burnett of Cochise College in Tucson, AZ.
Air Traffic Safety: Falcon Field Tower in Mesa, AZ.
Safety Counselor: Tony Guglielmino of Pima College in Tucson, AZ.

Also honored for 50 years in the aviation maintenance industry, the following individuals received the "Charles Taylor" Master Mechanic award:

Robert L. Copeland from Mesa, AZ.
James H. Prendergast from Sun City, AZ.
Lowell C. White from Mesa, AZ.
Paul Fielding from Albuquerque, NM. The award was presented posthumously and accepted by Mr. Fielding’s son.

Our congratulations to all of the winners! Arizona aviation is proud of you and your contributions to aviation safety!
