DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION
BAKERSFIELD ATCT/TRACON
1547 BOUGHTON DRIVE
Bakersfield, CA 93308

ISSUED: October 1, 1996 EFFECTIVE: November 1, 1996

BAKERSFIELD TOWER/TRACON LETTER TO AIRMEN No. 96-1

SUBJECT: Services provided for VFR practice instrument approaches

CANCELLATION: October 31, 1998

Bakersfield Tower/TRACON (ATC) provides approach control service for VFR practice instrument approaches to the following airports:

Bakersfield Meadows Field Airport (BFL) Delano Municipal Airport (DLO)
Porterville Municipal Airport (PTV) Shafter Minter Field Airport (MIT)
Bakersfield Municipal Airport (L45)

Standard Separation (separation from IFR arrivals and departures and from other aircraft conducting practice approaches) begins when ATC issues the approach clearance. Standard separation ends at the missed approach point (MAP). The missed approach procedure is not a part of the approval for the VFR practice approach unless specifically requested by the pilot and approved by the controller. Information on how the approach will terminate (full stop or the option) should be stated when the request for the approach is made.

Request for VFR practice approaches should be made on the following frequecies:

BFL - 126.45 DLO - 118.9 PTV - 120.5
MIT - 126.45 L45 - 126.45

ATC reminds pilots of the requirement to maintain VFR throughout the entire practice instrument approach procedure. If you have any questions about this service, please call me at (805) 399- 3531.

James S. Snavely
Air Traffic Manager
Bakersfield Tower/TRACON
